many of the Loctite products serve double duty as sealants and as threadlockers. The problem is if you use 277 on a fairly clean and dry parts you will have a VERY hard time getting the apart. For permanent sealing I think a good teflon based paste or dope is the best. For something that you will be taking apart frequently or that have to be assembled wet/oily teflon tape is good. Paste or dope is vastly superior though. I work in the refrigeration business and there's not much that is harder to seal than refrigerant and their oils and teflon tape is marginal on pipe thread larger than 3/8".
