Not only is the frame weaker, but the axles and diffs are weaker than 3/4 ton WCs and postwar Power Wagons and M37s. So if a "buildup" is planned, the WW2 1/2 tons are the most appropriate for transposing onto a new frame/drivetrain.
How about onto a Chevy 1 ton chassis with a 6.5 diesel (turbo? up to 385-430 ft-lb), NV4500 5spd, NP205, Dana 60 front, 14 bolt rear.
