On the bed question...the subfloor is what I am asking about and I think the answer is steel. The three WDX-WM300 trucks I had a chance to look at today all have metal cross braces supporting the wood floor. The WC trucks have wood on top of the frame rails with wood cross braces. Likely a result of metal steel shortages in WWII.
