If you do not want to deal with the area around the window make two small cuts and leave the top window surround in place . Sort of like a top chop only you are removing just the door skin . The small area of welding will not warp the door because it is small and curved .
Once the skin is of you can go at it until the curve is uniform . You can also add supports or a crash bar .
