You must be quite the pimp with those shoes and that diamond necklace. A couple years ago I found that I had charged $8000 at a hotel in Paris. I must have had a real good time because I don't remember the wine, the women, or the song.
Same thing with the credit card company in my case. They called me to verify the rest of the charges on my bill, and canceled the card. I always suspected somebody at Saturn Surplus copied the number because I had recently bought from them on-line and at least in those days, their system for placing a credit-card order on-line consisted of filling in an unsecured form which would convert to an email and send it to the salesman, with the credit card number in plain view. Somebody could have theoretically hacked into the unencrypted web traffic, but more likely somebody inside the company was just looking at other people's email or even looking at the trash they threw out. Of course it could have been unrelated to that order, but that's the only time I've ever placed an order via an unencrypted email form (won't do it again!), and I hadn't used my card at any restaurants or local retailers around that time.
