I had the same experience with the Hirsch product. I used it, following all of the directions, and several years later, chunks of it began coming off. I ended up working hard to peel/blast it all out with high-pressure water at a car wash. I have just used the tank as-is ever since then. It was not as rusty as I had originally thought, so I have not put in any other type of coating.
