As other have stated, it depends what you want to do with the site, how big you expect it to get, how much time you want to spend on building pages.
I use Pair.com for hosting this site, and Pairnic.com for the domain name registration. I have been with them for 10 years, and found them to have reliable servers, and good bandwidth. I don't use their customer support very often, and its usually by email.
If you only want a few pages, and don't want to spend time learning html, something like Godaddy of Google Sites should be fine. They have canned sites that look good. I host a couple sites as part of my Pair account powerwagonparts.com, and powerwagonlocker.com, that cost $1.00/month, but you have to rely on me for support.
Nice thing about websites, if you don't like your current provider, you can always move your site to something better.
