I have done the high end tig welded , metal finished no filler patches . When i have the right equipment they are a pleasure to do . But there are times I have wondered why bother ? Right now I am working on some parts on the carryall and realized that they would be unseen and covered - so what the heck am I doing metal finishing the welds ?
My favorite vehicle was unfinished and in primer for years .
I like the exposed unfinished welds on the carryall roof .
Do what works for you and change it when you have the truck running and the inclination to fix something . After 20 years most of the stuff you have done will blend in and ad character to the truck .
