Hi Tom,
The 65 D-500 I got my 318 out of had a 2 speed rear. The switch is built inside the shifter knob, has a toggle coming out the drivers side. I snagged it for my overdrive switch. It works great, but is easy to hit OD accidentally. A couple of years ago, I was driving down the road, it had snowed a couple of inches and hadnt been plowed. It was slippery, so I was in 4wd, I downshifted, and accidentally hit the overdrive switch, engaging it. I was instantly sideways in the road, with both axles going 2 different speeds, and the rear wanting to go faster than the front! Pretty good pucker factor! I was lucky that nobody was coming, and I got it straightened out without much fuss. I then installed a second switch that kills all power to the overdrive that I leave on all winter.
Tim
