I had a heater that plumbed into the heater hoses and worked fine. Problem was it wanted a connection down on the bottom of the block. A plug to come out and a fitting to screw in for a hose. I didnt do it as the plug was not very easy to get out and I left it and just plumbed it into the heater hoses. It worked fairly well for a few years before it burned out. I've got a lower radiator hose heater now and its easy to install and cheaper and does the job. With a gas engine I wouldnt waste the time and hassle of installed a freeze plug style heater.
