2 things cause that usually. it can be either over filling of radiator or sticky thermostat. if the Tstat stays shut a bit too long everything gets too hot and then when it lets go it expands right out the top. not fun if the winshield is open at 55. ;/) last time mine overflowed it was the Tstat sticking.
