I have seen several causes for long crank times. First I would check the batteries and starter closely. The engine can sound like it cranks fast enough but still have a bad battery or starter. Always replace the batteries in pairs. Another cause is too high of a fuel pressure feeding the VP44 pump. I have seen FASS fuel systems provide too high of a fuel pressure. The VP44 may be failing electronically, or even the FPCM. But usually he VP44 and FPCM only act up during a hot start up. Aftermarket fuel pump systems are known for over pressurizing the VP44.
