It would be interesting to see how strong a typical Budd wheel actually is and compare it to a wheel off a 3/4-ton or 1-ton truck. Today we have much better quality control, better materials, a greater understanding of the loads, and more reasons to get it right (getting sued). On the other hand, the Budd wheel has been proven for the last 70+ years without gaining a reputation for going bad.
Maybe someday I can put together a load test just to satisfy my own curiosity.
