I don't know why you you have to be so confrontational, I was simply letting you know that you were misinformed by a variety of people (professors, engineers, authors). I admire that you are trying to help answer peoples questions on technical matters, but there have been a few times where you are objectively wrong. I'm not trying to be patronizing, but I feel compelled to make sure people get the truth (especially when it deals with life-safety). If you can find any evidence of 5:1 safety factors or anything else you stated, then I would be interested to hear it. I have never dealt with safety factors that high on a structure.
