The Good:
I Just got back from SEMA. I am now offering a Portal Axle for the VPW with the BUDD 5-bolt pattern! This robust unit gets your 5" of lift over stock and has a 1.5:1 reduction in the boxes. Rated for 19,500 GVWR. American Made. These units mate to Dana 60/70 axles. Ratios start at 5.26:1 and go up from there.
The Bad:
A 16" wheel will not work. Gamma Goat wheels and Stockton 16.5"+ wheels only. Recommend a lot of backspace. I am running 20x10 wheels with 9" b/s
The Ugly:
The portals cost more than my whole truck. The units are about $10,000.00 or $20,000.00 if I supply them on Dynatrac axles. They are a bolt on conversion, but you will need to fab links front and rear to prevent dangerous axle wrap. Sold as "off-road only", but have been tested to sustain 55mph for 24 hour periods.
