Still have not gotten that truck in WI hauled. After posting on Yesterday's Tractors a bonehead scammer with "no permanent address" expected me to send him a pre-paid deposit on an untraceable store card.
The latest so called "hauler" called me from neighboring PA. Tells me he is a farmer who hauls on the side. Says its no problem to go and get the truck for $1.50 a loaded mile. Tells me he has a license. Sounds like a straight shooter. Easy to talk to. Also tells me he buys mineral rights from farmers for more than the gas companies are paying, and I happen to have mineral rights. Even tells me he has eaten at the local truckstop I go to on weekends! Sounds promising, right?
Well, I "Googled" him. Turns out he was convicted of "theft by deception" for buying cattle at auction with a check from a closed account. Got one year's probation. Also convicted of giving a false identiy to a police officer in a traffic stop.
It takes all kinds I suppose. Either I am a magnet for these jokers or there is a whole lot more scamming going on than anyone realizes. Caveat Emptor. Looks like I may have to go get the truck myself!
