One way of thinking of it is that $500 won't go far towards replacing a cracked block. The other way of thinking of it is that if you don't go to the hassle of filling out the paperwork you won't get any money, and even if it takes 2 hours of paperwork "hassle" and some postage stamps to get $500, that's $250/hour which is a lot more than I've ever made on an hourly basis, though maybe not for you.
