Initially with the 1bbl, but got no improvement. See the dyno run print out at my Imageevent site.
The added the 2bb and BaZOOOM!!!
I fabbed an adapter, as tall as I could and still get the 318 air filter under the hood but above the tie rod. Length is a good thing with low speed motors- I calculated tubes for the headers, they should be 6' long and 7/8 diameter. You can also see how I lengthened the center intake tube by making it go through a 270° loop.
Ideally you want a hand choke model carb for the cam with no steps and the spring of the linkage. Hard to find. I used the 318 auto choke bimetal strip, hooked the cable to the housing, so the driver manually controls the bi-metal, not the choke plate. Rupe Goldberg, but works. MY throttle linkage is RG too, but I wanted to retain the hand throttle capability. So a big bell crank to get the push-upwards-on-the-right of the stock link to a pull-back-on the left side carb.
I did make a couple jigs. Next set will be stainless tubing, headers and intake. Could be yours for $1,000.
