I used a .500" thick piece of aluminum. I drew the gasket outline on it, cut it out, drilled holes for both the intake and carb. Then, using a drill press, used (if I remember right) an 1 3/4" hole saw and went all of the way through the plate using the original intake gasket as a template. Flipping it over, I went 1/2 way through the plate using an 1 5/8" hole saw with the Carter gasket as the template. After that, it was just blending with a pneumatic die grinder with a ROUTER bit. I do NOT recommend using a router bit unless you're willing to lose body parts, lots of blood, windows, or anything within the garage. It removes a lot more than tungsten carbide bits in a fraction of the time, but if chunks fly off of your bit- they can do severe damage. Personally, I believe it's not fun unless you get hurt. Caveat emptor!
