You said you wire it so the lights are always available, but then you aid you use a relay to turn on the main power to the fuse block when the ignition is on. If you do that, how do you leave the lights available when the ignition is off?
When I re-wired my Sno-Cats, which have a LOT of electrical extras, mostly lights, I put a main relay upstream of everything, controlled by a small hidden switch. I did this for two reasons. One was to have a simple way to make sure that there was absolutely NO drain when it was off. I don't want a few milliamps here or there running the battery down over the summer, and I don't want accidentally leaving some minor thing on to run the battery down overnight when I'm out in the boonies in the winter. When I turn it off, I want it to be off. The other was so I could do away with the key-lock ignition switch and still have some protection against the casual thief. I don't want to risk dropping the keys in the snow out in the boonies somewhere and then having to either find them, hot-wire it, or hike a long way out. The relay and switch are an additional point of failure, but if they do fail, I can bypass the relay in the field fairly easily.
