For efficiency, flame should not be coming out of the exhaust. Any flame downstream of the combustion chamber is wasted unburned fuel. Saw a guy at a gas station once, at night, where every time he stepped on the gas a big yellow flame came out of a hole in the exhaust pipe under his car. Not a good sign. Blue flame wouldn't have been any better.
