Hydroboost likes to see a .025" pre load on the Master Cyl push rod. The return spring in the Hydroboost is not real strong and depends on the spring in the master cylinder to return the Hydroboost to rest position.
It sounds to me as if you have exceeded the .025" pre load and with a rod to long are actually 'starting' to apply brakes. This is why they react so quickly. I have hydroboost on all my old iron. None of them have almost instant on brakes. Rather a push of the brake pedal is required to initiate brakes.
I dont believe its a bleeding problem. If you had any air in the system, brakes would not operate smoothly and steering woudl be jerky.
When I bleed a new hydroboost system, I fill the PS Pump to the full mark. With both front wheels off the floor and engine off, I crank the wheel lock to lock a few times.
Then re check PS fluid level. If need be refill. Now Start the engine and IMMEDIATELY !!!! shut it down. FIll the PS Pump, start engine again and IMMEDIATELY !!! shut her down. Keep doing this until the PS fluid level does not drop when the engine is started.
Now, with a full PS Pump, start engine and slowly crank the steering wheel lock to lock, shut down and refill to the full level. Repeat until the level does not drop. Now your done with a well bled system.
By starting and IMMEDIATELY shutting down, you eliminate the chance of runing the pump low and inducing air to the system your trying to eliminate air.
