Clint, the trouble with the early hemis is that nothing interchanged. Parts for the Chrysler wouldn't fit the Desoto, the Desoto stuff didn't fit the Dodge and so on. If you want to find out more about them and find a good parts source, look up HotHeads online. Lots of good info, lots of parts as they specialize in the early he is, and they're very pleasant over the phone. As for fit, I agree that the Chrysler's are wide, but I have seen 331s, 354s, and the 392s installed in FFPWs. Matter of fact, one of my trucks is getting a 331 this winter. I'll be sure to document the process, and the very few parts I need will come from HotHeads (called them this morning). As a side note, I definitely noticed the overall build quality of the 50s hemi to be much better than many of the engines built afterwards...
