Hi The Other Ross,
Walnut is primarily used for aluminum and sheet metal where sand is too destructive. Frames and other more solid materials are best shot with sand, however the EPA is cracking down on silica's hense the use of other media. Just like low VOC paint that runs off in the rain, we are being 'saved' from ourselves by big brother. = )
