Not as crazy as you'd think. The DUKW hull design was by Sparkman and Stevens, a leading Yaught design company. I've seen film of a DUKW driving out against 30+ foot surf - VERY capable machine which owners use to cross the English channel almost regularly.
Not as crazy as Ben Carlin going round the world in 'Half Safe', an amphibious jeep though.... 8-)
No usable Dodge amphibians at all. Hoffheims did a chain drive 3/4 ton amphib called an Aqua-Cheetah (Beechwood Canvas have one survivor out of the dozen or so built) but not a lot of use. I hear someone did a version of the 6 x 6 Weapons carrier too, but I imagine it went the same way, as those flatheads don't have the ultimate grunt of the GMC 270, which is what allowed the DUKW to haul itself onto the beach.
