It is probably a good general rule because only the smaller wheels on which the 7.50-16 tires mount can be dualled up (due to their deeper offset). The larger, shallower wheels to which the 900-16 tires mount cannot be dualled up. Generally, the old WDX-WM300 style Power Wagons with 7.50-16 tires from the factory had 4.89 gears while the old PWs with 900-16 tires from the factory had 5.83 gears. So it makes sense, as a general rule, that old style PWs with dual tires most likely have 4.89 gears. The fly in the ointment is the non-original to PW deep-dish 6.50-16 wheels from other equipment that can mount a 900-16 tire and be dualled up. Don't get fooled by them.
