You can also bolt a PTO to your NP420 4spd (CAREFUL: there is an early and late version, they are different because the input gears are different!) and use a different PTO winch if you wish. Either a lighter duty type like a Ramsey model 200 8000 lb winch or a very heavy duty type like a Braden AMSU3. I have the hydraulic version of the Braden, an AHSU3, with mounting rails on top of my 1 piece bumper and bolted between the frame rails in the back. I burned a hole in the bumper and bolted a roller fairlead over the hole. It required two set of frame extensions to fit without butchering the front body pieces. That adversely affects my approach angle but my tires are 37s, I have an add-a-leaf in the front and I have another 2" front spring lift that gets my bumper about 4-5" higher than stock so it isn't a big problem. With the lift and bigger tires it looks very nice and with 270' of 7/16" cable there are few "stucks" that are serious problems for me, as long as there are trees around.
If you have a 1 piece bumper it may be problematic and just as expensive to find a LU4 as it would be to use your present bumper and either a new AMSU3/AHSU3 or a MU2 from a Power Wagon/WW2 WC source, which is dimensionally similar to the new "3" series I refer to and would mount similarly. If you want hydraulic you'll have to adapt a pump to the PTO. I don't know if that's ever been done yet and would be quite an expensive deal.
