I've been running an M37 with a Detroit 3-53N for over 25 years now. I kept the stock gears, and fitted a Spicer 3053A 5-speed from the M35A2 series. It goes 68 on the freeway (with Goat wheels & tires), and still has a lot of grunt when needed. The transmission is a lot more robust than any comparable unit, and is a lot cheaper than a pair of new ring & pinion sets. DG
