Troop Seats On My M880

I am looking to refinish the troop seats on my M880. The original wood is all cracked and weathered from the elements. The wood looks beyond sanding and should be replaced I guess. I don't know too much about wood working, so I want to know what wood was originally used on these and should I stay with that wood or use a better, different kind of wood?
