I think you're right that the chevrolet kept the closed cab when all the others went to open.
ALL the Alcan Chevrolets I've seen were the dump models, with Ford 4 x 2 being used as the plain cargo trucks.
Lots of Carryalls and Commands too, so this is probably where they were sent for being too high profile to use up the sharp end, except for the ones that were aircrew transport in England.
