Looking at my Random House Dictionary, there are several definitions for "engine" and "motor". It states that (among other things) an engine is a machine for converting thermal energy into mechanical energy or power to produce force and motion. It states that a motor is a comparatinely small and powerful engine, esp. an internal-compustion engine in an automobile, motorboat, etc. Another definition of a motor is a machine that converts electrical energy into mechanical energy.
