Dad married Mom for the wood lot in her family... I was born on a construction site.
My brothers and I thought we were playing a big sand box. What we were really doing was back filling foundations.
Later we were the armorers of the neighborhood, making wooden guns for all of our friends.
Dad did some things really, really wrong when raising us, but he did do one thing right. He brought us to anything a guy could drag his kids to- tour Navy sips, watch a ship launching, rodeos, shotgun ranges, saw mills, Orin the well driller and blacksmith's shop. Watch the plumbers on Dad's site work molten lead with bare hands. And Dad's younger brother was a mechanic.
Versus today. My neighbor took his kids on a three day camping trip. They were home after one night- "It's so dirty out there!"...
