When I was younger, we stated a Ford 429 v-8 sitting on the ground. Jumper cables to the starter & coil. Gas down the carb and we started it and kept dropping fuel down the carb. We only had it running a minute or two.
I would do an engine swap in the field, but not knowing the actual condition of your spare engine would lead to some hesitation... I would start with all your basic hand tools, sockets, rachets. Then add in your specialty items. Then you need the unexpected things that may break. Then wire,gaskets, fluids.
