One of my roller cabinets has a large MAC tools sticker on it I put there in 1974 while working at an IH truck dealership. I forget the exact wording, but the meaning is, don't ask to borrow my tools.
My thinking has been to buy what you need, not borrow and not loan. The bad stories in this thread only reinforces that idea.
I had a neighbor once ask to borrow my tractor. I said no, then visited with a different neighbor about it. He said it was best I not loan that person anything because either you don't get it back or you get it back broken. He shared more horror stories about that neighbor, but I won't bore you with them.
