I bought an autometer, I believe it is an ultracomp. They mostly sell diesel tachs for racing and the bigger size tachs go to 5 or 6K, which seemed riduculous for a 4bt so I bought what I believe is a 2.5" tach that goes to 4K. The autometer uses a big hose clamp around the alternator and a pickup. You then have to calibrate it, I used a photo tach from work that uses reflective tape and calibrated it at the high idle (mine revs to about 2600 no load 2500 loaded).
