removing winch drum

The cable wraped around the handle assembly on my MU-2 winch. It broke off those two small screws in the winch housing .

I need to remove the winch so I can try and get them out so I can install new handle unit. My question is, after I remove winch can I just pull the drum off by hand? Or do you have to use a puller?
