Get a strip of sheetmetal long enough to wrap around the center of the rim and about 4" wide. Wrap the metal around the rim to protect the coating and let the tire hold it in place while you slip the second piece in place.
When you have the outer side in place pull the sheetmetal out with pliers as you stand on the ring to keep it in place. As the sheetmetal comes out knock the ring into place.
