If you go much over 8.5V, you increase the chance of blowing globes, so be careful. When I used this system years ago I started at 9.25V max charge, but blew a couple of sealed beams, reset at 8.5V and no problems - suggests you could start at 8.5V and work your way up a bit to get the best out of the battery.
