B-3-PW Brakes...metal clip for shoes broke!

I managed to break off several of the metal spring-steel clips that help keep the shoes seated/aligned/etc. from the wheel hub assembly. I tried not to do it of course, but three of the eight managed to break off. They seem to be tamped onto two small lugs, so replacing them will be a pain in the ass. How critical are these?
