You may have replaced the bypass filter system with a full flow filter system.
The original filter has an orifice to maintain oil pressure in the engine because there is no real restriction in the filter element itself.
I think you may still have the orifice installed, but on the output side of the filter cartridge. This could cause too much pressure in the cartridge. Could cause the o-ring on top of the filter to blow out, or worse yet cause the cannister itself to blow out.
I think if you put the orifice BEFORE the cannister it would still allow you to use the spin on cartridge.
If my theory is right, you should look for the orifice in one of the fittings in the plumbing where the oil goes back into the engine after going thru the filter.
Merely move the orifice to the input side of the filter and you should be good to go.
