The cartrige filter was a messy leaker also-plumb wore out. I sibbed in a catridge filter from a LaSalle but that wasnt better cuz I couldn't get a gasket that really fit the cannister. This one was promted on this site and the mount fits the original spot with a bit of drilling. The filter sits upright (like a jar or cup) so no mess whatsoever to change. I am wondering is, as suggested, the finish on the alluminum is just too good and the seal doesnt make a good seal on it.
