if steering is that loose then possibly the 4 bolts that hold the steering arm to knuckle are loose. seen it a few times. popping out of 2 high may jsut be the rod needs adjusting if the levers are touching the front of th slot in the center hump then it might not be engaged all the way. so when you accelerate, torque causes the levers to push on front of slot and, pop, out it comes. the levers should not be touching the front of the slota at all.
