My new u-bolts are bent rod. But due to the inner radius, the top doesn't sit against the upper ears of the pads, they only touch on the corners of the spring. Not torqued yet. , IIRC, newer production stuff used a plate with notches in the corners to suit the radius of the rod. Should I make some, or just torque them down, they'll work fine with minimal contact? Or was the newer stuff just soft steel, notches get squished into them on torquing?
