Hi all,
Many factors invovled.
What are you hauling?
Is it parts, a car, a truck?
size and weight?
where is it located?
running vehicle vs. non-running?
acessible for loading, stuck in the snow? ice or mud?
Inclosed or open trailer?-(Show car?)
Tolls.
Time frame.
Personalized service, photos before/after, inspections, phone calls, tracking...
Many big rigs do not like to go into the corners of the country. So, someone else hauls the item to a drop off point where the item may sit for a long time. Or, it is loaded and unloaded many times-you will never know who damaged it!!!!
I picked up a non-running truck in NC and a big rig would NEVER have gotten to the location.
I have dropped off trucks on the new owners property where big rigs could not go.
Tow truck fee differ from area to area.
In NYC/NJ area, $85 and up just to hook the vehicle and $4.50 and up per mile.
A Power Wagon on a big rig may cost you for more than one space due to the size of the truck.
At $4.00 a gallon, I am in the $2-$2.50 per mile range and $100-$150 to load and unlad a non-running vehicle.
This is with a pick up and a trailer and VERY personalized service!!
The price can increase if hauling through mountains with a heavy load.
Many factors for a hauler to consider.
Try to give as much info when shopping around and get all the services provided from the hauler so you can compare properly.
