Exactly right Bucky,
That is where timeframe comes into play
It takes me 4 to 6 weeks minimum on average to schedule connecting loads to a location
within a reasonable distance of a pick up location
All transport I do is ' door to door '
The loads determine where I go next
Seldom am I within 100 miles of a load
I drop off to the next scheduled pick up location
Personally, I allow up to 100 unloaded miles on hauls of 1000 miles or more to get to the pick up location from my last drop off point
Unloaded miles have to be paid for
Usually they are hidden & undisclosed
Often they are passed on in the transport cost
