NP540 in 2 ton dodge??

I am going to look at a 49 dodge 2 ton flatbed. It is supposed to be in nice shape and have a 5 speed in it -- however it does not run.

Can anyone tell me how to identify a NP540, and whether or not is is an overdrive. It is supposed to have a 2 speed axle.
