I have here a reproduction top plate from Tom at Snake River. (He also makes nice aluminum spreader bars.) It’s dimensions overall are 15 and 3/8” X 5 and 1/2.“ The bolt holes center are 14 and 3/8” X 5.” The hole spacing is correct I believe but his holes are punched 9/16” and they should be 1/2” as this allows to much wiggle room for the halves. In order for this plate to work good as a spacing/parallel gage the holes have to be exactly square when you drill.
I’ve seen back mounted bars and they may be useful as radiator protection.
I run a long block in my M-37 as well but I like the short stroke of the 237. It will cruse at 55 mph with 5:83 gears smoothly and will get as high as 14 mpg.
