If the transmission is a NP540/1/2 series it's not overdrive. OD in my 540 is forwards and to the right. BUT: ratios are for example roughly 7.5, 4.0, 2.5, 1.4, 1.0 You could install 4.89s and a set of 40-42" tires and effectively have (with 42s) 0.83 overdrive relative to 35s and have nice fairly close gears to row through (from 2nd) to get there. The difference between a set of 40.7" 335/80R20s and stock NDs is 0.865 and even NDs/11.00R16s is 0.91.
So a direct 5th NP540 would be worth grabbing, some of the 540s virtues are relative shortness (only 13"), relatively "light" (about 180 lb) and the remote possibility of being a bolt-up, maybe not so remote if it comes from an old Dodge.
