I was amazed to see a repair on a flathead 6 being used in a small airplane tug. As best as I can tell, some years earlier, someone had left pure water in the engine, and it froze. This caused a crack in the block, just below the cylinder head, that ran the entire length of the engine on one side. It had been welded the entire length, and was a beautiful looking weld. That tug has been used for years now, without any trouble from this repair. It's impressive thinking about what can be done.
