Magnaflux is a trade-marked process by which the ferrous part is subjected to a magnetic field and sprinkled with tiny iron filings. If the part has any cracks, even microscopic ones, the filings will concentrate around the crack. If crack free, the filings will only stay at the crank ends.
The other process you mentioned is referred to as Zy-Glo. This was a trade-marked process and I don't know if they are still in business. The Eastwood Co. has a Zy-Glo type kit for home use which can be used anywhere (swap meets, junkyards etc.).
